Global DNS Threat Survey Report from EfficientIP estimates DNS-based attacks cost businesses more than $2M annually

EffcientIP, a leading provider of network services, today announced the results of its 2017 Global DNS Threat Survey Report. It explored the technical and behavioural causes for the rise in DNS threats and their potential effects to businesses across the world. Major issues highlighted by the study in its third year, include a lack of awareness as to the variety of attacks, a failure to adapt security solutions to protect DNS and poor responses to vulnerability noti cations. These concerns will not only be subject to regulatory changes, but also create a higher risk of data loss, downtime or compromised public image.

EfficientIP has released its 2017 Global DNS Threat Survey Report, offering valuable insights into the escalating challenges posed by Domain Name System (DNS) threats and their potential impact on businesses worldwide. The report, now in its third year, highlights major issues within the landscape of DNS security. One significant concern is the lack of awareness regarding the diverse range of DNS attacks, emphasizing the need for organizations to deepen their understanding of these evolving threats. The study also points out the failure of many enterprises to adapt their security solutions to effectively protect their DNS infrastructure, reflecting a critical vulnerability that exposes businesses to a heightened risk of data loss, downtime, and damage to their public image.

A key revelation from the survey is the estimated cost of DNS-based attacks, with businesses facing an annual financial impact exceeding $2 million. This substantial economic burden underscores the severity of DNS threats and the imperative for organizations to invest in robust security measures. In addition to the financial implications, the report emphasizes the regulatory changes that may accompany these security concerns, further underscoring the need for proactive and adaptive cybersecurity strategies.

The study sheds light on the challenges posed by poor responses to vulnerability notifications, emphasizing the importance of timely and effective remediation measures. Inadequate responses not only expose organizations to increased cybersecurity risks but also jeopardize their compliance with regulatory frameworks. As businesses grapple with the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats, EfficientIP’s DNS Threat Survey Report serves as a crucial resource, urging organizations to prioritize DNS security to mitigate the potential consequences of attacks and safeguard their digital assets.
