NDOCโs growing number of servers required more effective network management, particularly due to half of their locations being stand-alone and not integrated with the existing IPAM solution from their vendor at the time, Infoblox. They could no longer abide remote management failures, downtime, and visibility issues. As a state-run facility with set budgets, NDOC needed an all-in-one solution that would allow them to grow without emptying their pockets.
The Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) has successfully achieved full network visibility with the implementation of EfficientIP. This strategic move is a testament to NDOC’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Situated in Carson City, the NDOC manages over 13,000 inmates across 17+ facilities, offering rehabilitative services and vocational training. With 2,400 employees, including 30 IT staff members, NDOC prioritizes creating a secure environment for inmates and staff alike.
Daniel Erlendson, IT Manager at NDOC, commended the transition, stating, “The work performed to get NDOC off of our old, unsupported solution and into the present on the EfficientIP platform was simply amazing.”
In a correctional facility, network management is crucial, ensuring the seamless operation of devices such as door locks and HVAC systems. The growing number of servers demanded more effective management, prompting NDOC to seek a comprehensive solution.
Facing challenges with the previous solution, NDOC meticulously transitioned to EfficientIP, resulting in improved visibility, cost savings, and enhanced performance. Erlendson noted, “Our users were not impacted in any significant negative way by this transition.”
EfficientIP’s solution, featuring 9 SOLIDserverโข virtual appliances and 11 MVSM licenses, provided NDOC with a flexible IPAM solution, DNS/DHCP service management for Linux servers, and active/passive DHCP failover.
“The IT Chief forwarded a note to our upper management, praising the essentially invisible transition that occurred within what is, without a doubt, the most critical system we have,” Erlendson summarized.
NDOC reaps numerous benefits, including centralized platform control, accurate IP address assignments, improved search features, faster task performance, cost-effectiveness, and time savings.
NDOC is focused on enhancing security and automation with EfficientIP. The consideration of the EfficientIP 360ยบ DNS Security suite and the NetChange product reflects NDOC’s commitment to managing the increasing number of connected devices and IP addresses.
The successful transition of NDOC to EfficientIP marks a significant milestone in network management. As NDOC looks toward the future, the partnership with EfficientIP ensures ongoing improvements in network security and automation.
